Joshua is stepping into Moses’ shoes, tasked with leading
Israel into the Promised Land. He’s not told to be clever, popular, or
charismatic. He’s told to be strong and courageous. The
opposite—weakness and bashfulness—would hinder the mission. Joshua must be
bold, forthright, and unwavering.
But this boldness is not arrogance. It’s not pride. It’s
rooted in continual meditation on God’s Word. Joshua is commanded to
“not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth,” but to “meditate on it
day and night.” His strength comes from knowing what God wants and acting on it
with conviction.
Christian leadership today demands the same. A leader must:
- Know
the Word deeply.
- Meditate
on it constantly.
- Act
with boldness, not bravado.
- Trust
God’s presence and promises.
- Lead
with conviction, not consensus.
Even the people of Israel echoed God’s command: “Only be
strong and courageous!” They were saying, “Lead on! Take the helm!” When a
leader is grounded in Scripture and confident in God’s backing, he can lead
with a strong resolve—without wavering or doubting.
Joshua’s model is timeless. It reminds us that spiritual
leadership is not about personality—it’s about obedience, courage, and
clarity.
Are you leading from a place of conviction? What challenges
are you shying away from? What is God
calling you to “step up” to?
